The vineyard enjoys a spectacular position under the dramatic Klein Drakenstein mountains together with panoramic views of the Paarl and its famous granite domes. At Mellasat Vineyards we reckon we’re a bit different, which is why you’ll find a white Pinotage amongst our range of award winning wines. To make our wines more accessible we’ve established a tasting centre with stunning views of the Paarl valley and the craggy Klein Drakenstein mountains. Our small but quality range of wines are an expression of harmony of the local natural beauty and are aimed primarily at the discerning domestic and export markets. Whether it’s the premium Mellasat or the easy styled Dekker’s Valley our two boutique ranges provide something for everyone from wine connoisseurs to the casual, everyday wine drinker. The farm also grows Tempranillo and Viognier that more recently came into production. Both our vineyard and winery are registered under the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) and Wine of Origin schemes which assure both good practise and tracebility. A successful vineyards depends on the people running it and we feel that local knowledge is best. Our small team of viticulturalists, winemakers, and tasting room personnel ensure that our wines are the best quality we can achieve, and that your visit to Mellasat Vineyards is a memorable experience. Since its first vintage in 2007 our White Pinotage has been a winner! Now available not only in South Africa but also in the USA and Europe, and with each vintage produced we believe the wine gets better and better.Our 2015 vintage received a Silver Medal at the 2016 Decanter World Wine Awards scoring 92 points. This wine is medium to full bodied showing great berry flavours with marinated cherries and spice. It is a complex wine that is perfect for those cold winter days and/or evenings in front of the fire. Drink this wine now or keep for five years, although we find, if previous vintages are anything to go by, it will be hard to keep from drinking! The wine was matured in older French oak barrels for three years.
